Rebound in three-quarter tooled brown leather with original cloth; raised bands; gilt-ruled spine coffer in red with spine lettering gilt; original gilt title on front cover with 1870 date, and gilt ornament on rear; new endpapers and fly-leaves. 67 pp. + additional material [4 unpaginated pp. + v pp.] + 44 plates plus title-page (bound in at rear with plates). 48 lithographs on 44 plates, all but one in colour lithography; title-page is also a colour lithograph on gilt background. Some flaking to original title-gilt; some margins, of text only, repaired; upper text-page corner rebacked; light marginal stains to text pages (not affecting text); and foxing throughout. All the lithographed images are bright, and the text is remarkably bright & clean. This book has been called one of the masterpieces of the Golden Age of Mexican Lithography. Lithographed by the renowned Mexican lithographer, Victor Debray, the images were painted by Casimir Castro, Juan Campillo, and G. Rodriguez. The book appears in different editions, each with a different number of plates and different additional text. Text is printed in double columns, one Spanish, the other French.
