Pangborn, J. G.
The World's Rail Way. Historical, Descriptive, Illustrative.
NY: Winchell Printing Company, 1894. 1st edition.
Actually published in the summer of 1896, owing to production delays explained on the colophone page. Rebound with spine lettering gilt and new endpapers; original top edge gilt. Profusely illustrated with colour engravings in text, of an extensive variety of historical locomotives, one per page, plus many b/w marginal line drawings of more locomotives, tracks, and portraits. Ink inscription on original fly-leaf (dated 1897); slightly bumped with cloth lightly soiled and scratched. The book was reprinted in the 20th century, but the first edition with its gloriously sparkling engravings is very scarce.
