Copper engraving of cameo image, approx. 3″ x 2 1/2″ (including title), on sheet, approx. 10 1/2″ x 7 3/4″, from Worlidge’s series of engravings of antique gems. The title refers to a double-faced mask with the face of Socrates on one side, and the face of a woman (his wife?) on the other. Mint condition with usual light soiling to sheet edges. Worlidge was an 18th century portraitist, noted for his Rembrandtesque portraits, and heads of mythological figures, Roman emperors and other luminaries from Classical times.
