Arabia. Hand-coloured Map (ca. 1850s)

Original steel engraved map with hand-coloured outlining. From a series of 80 such maps Tallis produced during the early 1850s. Delicately engraved, all include vignettes depicting famous landmarks or inhabitants of the particular area involved. This one includes a camel, Arabs, Arab women, and Mount Sinai. Full sheet 14″ x 11″ (37 cm x 27 cm). Decorative border. Ink number on top margin; other three margins chipped, with edge-tears, and one unevenly trimmed, slightly affecting decorative border; otherwise a nice clean copy.
