Kane’s account of the Second Grinnell Expedition in search of Sir John Franklin. 464; 467 pp. Original cloth with blind-stamped decoration and cover vignette (iceberg & ship); spine lettering gilt; original endpapers. Illustrated with over 300 textual wood engravings and steel engraved plates, from Kane’s own sketches; 2 folding maps. Ink name on fornt free endpaper of v.1, fly-leaf of v.2, and title-page of both volumes; spine tips nicked, missing sliver of cloth at v.1 tail; slight wear to corners, and extremities rubbed; small tear to folding maps, with bit of sunning and minor fraying to one exposed map margin; light foxing to prelims and some plate margins (not affecting illustrations); but otherwise bright & clean interior, almost remarkably fresh.
