Belgium (Antique Hand-Coloured Map, C.1850’s)

Original steel engraved map with hand-coloured outlining. From a series of 80 such maps Tallis produced during the early 1850s. Delicately engraved, all include vignettes depicting famous landmarks of the particular area involved. Those here include Altar of St. Gudule, Brussels, Monuments on the Plains of Waterloo, Atwerp Cathedral. Full sheet 11″ x 14″ (27 cm x 37 cm) Decorative border. Ink number on top margin and some neat ink annotations on map (added place-names and dots); a couple of closed edge-tears; otherwise a nice clean copy.
