Hardcover in slipcase, as issued. 1963-1968. Custom bound and printed excerpts from the Pickwick Papers, offered as a Christmas greeting by Samuel A. Dalton, president of Typographic Service Inc. to clients of the company. Appearing annually, each numbered volume contains a chapter of the Pickwick Papers, retaining the chapter’s original title, and is vibrantly illustrated in colour by Rey Abruzzi. Volumes are: The First Day’s Journey and the First Evenings’s Adventures with Their Consequences (#252/1300); An Account of a Wedding (#883/1300); Mr. Pickwick Journeys to Ipswich and meets with a Romantic Adventure with a middle-aged Lady in Yellow Curl Papers (#436/1300); A Short One Showing, Among Other Matters, How Mr. Pickwick Undertook to Drive and Mr. Winkle to Ride: And How They Both Did It (#1198/1300); Too Full of Adventure to be Described (#301/1300). If there was a volume issued in 1966, it is missing from this set. The volume for 1968 was issued after Dalton’s death and contains an announcment of his passing laid in. All volumes Fine, with light sunning to one spine. All slipcases Near Fine, with one slightly sunned on borders. All volumes are uniform, except one which is slightly smaller. This set will be of special interest for people interested in illustrations of Dickens’s works, and for those interested in the typographic fraternity.
