130 pp. First issue of famous fashion magazine with cultural pretensions. Die-cut front wrapper panel and a number of innovations in paper and printing (including inserts and partial pages). Includes full-page colour sketch by Rene Gruau, especially commissioned for this issue; insert of painting by Lucien Freud, together 2-page illustrated article; and 16-page insert, “A letter to Americans” by Jean Cocteau. Given its age, this issue is in really quite excellent shape, with only some wear to spine and chip at foot, and slightly fragile binding, still firm; but interior otherwise Near Fine.
