Full calf; raised bands with gilt decorated spine coffers; spine title gilt on red; marbled endpapers. 561 pp. Spine rubbed & scuffed, with shallow chip to head & tail; spine gutters split but firm; corners slightly worn; fly-leaf stuck to front free endpaper; interior otherwise clean & relatively bright, with the usual age-stains appearing only on lower margins of last few pages. A nice tight copy. Volume 1 only. Text in French, according to “le propre Manuscrit de l’Auteur”. Amelot de la Houssaie was a French historian whose writings earned him a brief spell in the Bastille. Our copy is evidently a later edition, since earlier ones have been noted for 1698 (1st?) and 1722.
