Meany, Jr. Endpapers reproduce title-pages of four Jewitt editions, and endpaper versos bear engraved portraits of Maquina, the Nootka chief, and Maria, wife of chief Tetacu. Jewitt was captured by the natives on an 1803 trading mission to Nootka Sound, after all but one of the rest of his shipmates had been massacred. #169/1522.
