Approx. 250-350 pp. per volume. Red cloth; spine lettering gilt; spine vignette gilt; top edge gilt. Ilustrated with photographs (frontispiece in colour plus 5 plates per volume). A few hinges just slightly started, but firm; v. 11 has damp stain on rear board and dye stain on tp margin and frontispiece, not affecting frontispiece illustration; but all volumes otherwise a bright VG+ or better overall. Set covers all of Asia, including Russia, Turkey, Persia, the Orient, Southeast Asia and the Philippines. V. 24 (on Russia) by Luigi Villari was written during the Russian civil war (1918-1920) and contains a special editorial on the nation’s future prospects, apparently still hoping for the emergence of a liberal constitutionalist regime.
