Original soft-ground etching with caption and title. Plate size, 11 1/4″ x 8 1/8″ (28.6 cm x 21 cm) plus margins. A caricature of Dr. Misaubin with an enema under his arm, originally sketched by Antoine Watteau. Caption reads, “Take your pills, take your pills” (in French), no doubt the 18th c. version of “Take an aspirin and call me in the morning”. Light foxing to margins with only very faint foxing to image. Pond was an 18th c. engraver, especially noted for his portraits and engravings after Italian old masters, including a series of caricatures.
