n.d. (ca. 1938) Approx. 100 leaves bound with metal pin into flexible cloth covers with paper title label. A selection of literary excerpts and political quotes set in a variety of type specimens. Quotes range from Winston Churchill to Adolf Hitler to Oscar Wilde. Spine needs repair. “NS” means Nazi, thus the title, translated, reads: Type Specimen Book of the Nazi Branch of Printing Trade Workers and Employees. The address, 8-10 Canisiusgasse (given on title label) is that of Vernay A. G., the printing house for all important Vienna newspapers. From one of Hitler’s quotes (dated 1938) about the importance of Vienna, this volume can be dated to propaganda surrounding the Anschluss. Many of the quotes are nationalistic in tone; others, including another from Hitler, concern the dignity of labour (another Nazi lie). The quotes from Wilde are sexist and out of context (more Nazi lies), while the quote from Churchill is intended to make him look like a hypocrite. This book is a unique piece of Nazi emphemera.
