n.d. (ca. 1878-79) 52 pp. Decorated cloth, rebacked, preserving original front and rear panels. Front panel decorated in gilt and black with title-lettering gilt, raised in black; rear panel blind-stamped; all edges gilt; new endpapers; new spine gilt-stamped with small decoration in black, and ruled in black at head and tail. Illustrated with 52 sparkling chromolithographed plates, including title-page and colophone. Ex lib. with shelf number on tp verso only, giving date of acquisition (1902) and rebacking (1935); part of fly-leaf rebacked with 4″ length of invisible tape to prevent edge-tears. The only other library markings are the institution’s blind stamp on each plate, presumably to prevent their removal, which in this case seems to have worked since all plates are present. A bright, fresh-looking copy of this manual of design, seminal to the development of Art Nouveau.
