Ink name on front free endpaper; spine cracked but firm; extremities rubbed; minor fraying to spine edges, with short split at head; interior otherwise clean & bright, especially the plates. Publisher’s spine imprint reads: Hodder & Stoughton. This is a more deluxe edition than an American edition, apparently from the same year, which has only 16 colourplates, no tissue guards and tissue guard illustrations, no introduction, and is in a slightly smaller format with narrower margins.
