Blue cloth, black ruled, with cover decoration stamped in black and titiel lettering in blue on gilt background; spine lettering gilt with spine decoration embossed in black; bevelled boards. Multiple engraved portraits on frontispiece; engraved title vignette of Stanley meeting Livingstone; folding map in colour. Ink inscription on frontispiece verso (1879); extremities slightly rubbed with some spotting to spine, and light rubbing to cover gilt; front hinge started under endpapers, but firm, and a couple of interior joins cracked but firm; otherwise a nice clean copy.
