Deep blue cloth ruled in argent, lettered in argent, with cover and spine vignettes argent; top edge gilt. 2 vols. liv, 366; xvi, 451 pp. Illustrated with numerous photographs, diagrams (v.1), textual illustrations (v. 2); 6 colourplates in each volume, and three folding colour maps and folding panoramas in rear pocket of v.2; v.1 frontispiece portrait of Shackleton, v.2 frontispiece of the Northern Party at South Magnetic Pole. Ink name to front pastedown and title-page (both volumes); binding cracked (both volumes), hinge started and first couple of signatures slightly shaken in v.1; extremities lightly rubbed and rubbing to cover & spine vignettes, with some flaking to silver of v.2 spine vignette; fold-tears to large map; still a sparkling copy with silver stunning on deep blue, and interiors clean and bright.
