Beige cloth squared in grey, with pony cover vignette and date in red; spine lettering yellow. 81 pp. SIGNED BY JOHN STEINBECK. #415/699. The book contains three stories inspired by Steinbeck’s own childhood pony (The Gift, The Great Mountains, The Promise). A fourth story was added for the later 1945 edition of this book. This original 1937 limited first edition was issued in a glassene wrapper, which is absent from our copy.
