To Which are Now Added, the Outlines of Each Head, and also Several Plates of the Most Celebrated Antique Statues, Skeletons, and Anatomical Figures…With Instructions For Young Students in the Art of Designing. And Passions as Characterized by Raphael in the Cartoons. n.d. (ca. 1831). Contemporary 3/4 calf & marbled boards. 40 pp. + plates. 12 engraved plates of anatomy, skeletal structure and classical sculpture, followed by 45 plates of engraved heads from Raphael’s cartoons (2 per plate), each facing an unnumbered plate with outline drawings of the heads, for a total of 102 plates. Ink name on front free endpaper (1831) and smaller name on front pastedown (1902); corners worn, and boards very rubbed; some plates heavily foxed, but most only marginally. It seems that a previous owner used some of the the blank pages on the back of the plates as a sketch pad, but the vandalism is sparse and in light pencil. Only on the first plate has someone used red pencil to improve one of the diagrams of how to draw heads.
