viii + 205 pp. + 16 p. catalgue with slip advertising Ruskin’s forthcoming “Stones of Venice” bound in. Original brown cloth decorated in blind; blind-stamped spine & lettering; original yellow endpapers; top edge gilt. Illustrated with 14 plates by John Ruskin. Armorial bookplate on front pastedown; cloth split at head of spine gutter (about 1 1/2″); endpaper leaves split over hinges; some glue residue on front free endpaper; faint moisture stain on rear free endpaper and rear pastedown only, with some light wrinkling to latter; but, for all that, the volume is still a very bright about fine, especially the binding which is in an excellent condition rarely seen in a book of this age. This first edition is especially notable for its plates, which were etched by Ruskin himself.
