Deep-green full leather ruled in gilt; inner dentelles gilt; raised bands; spine coffers ruled in gilt; spine lettering gilt; all edges gilt; marbled endpapers; bookmarks sewn in. Frontispiece portrait engraving, volume 1 only. A virtually Fine set, with only minor rubbing & soiling. Very light rubbing to spine head & foot of most volumes, and light soiling to rear boards of vols. 2 & 5 only. Vol. 1: Miscellaneous Poems, comprising Juvenilia, The Lady of Shallot and Other Poems, English Idylls and Other Poems; Vol. 2: Miscellaneous Poems, and Enoch Arden and Other Poems; Vol. 3: The Princess and Other Poems; Vol. 4: In Memoriam and Maud; Vol. 5: Idylls of the King; Vol. 6: Idylls of the King (cont’d); Vol. 7: Dramas (Queen Mary, Harold).. This is one of the “complete” works published during Tennyson’s lifetime, and overseen by him. These sets were “complete” up to the date of their respective publication. Tennyson died in 1883, so this set does not contain his writing after 1877, although it supersedes all previous Complete Works up to that date. An unusually bright and impressive set, and so tight we are tempted to doubt that it was ever opened!
