Hardcover. Half-cloth and boards with photo cover inset. v + 50 pp. Illustrated with 50 photographs plus frontispiece. Series of picturesque winter landscape shots accompanied by selections of poetry from Shakepseare, Tennyson, Cowper, Emerson, &c. Boards scuffed and slightly worn at corners; cloth spine slightly chipped at head & tail; binding cracked but firm; interior otherwise a clean, bright near fine. Rudolf Eickemeyer, Jr. (1862-1932) was an amateur photographer who attained to the distinction of being the second American to be invited to join the London photography group, The Linked Ring (Alfred Stieglitz was the first), and went on to win many awards and medals during the 1890s. “Winter” is one of his many endeavours to make photography accessible to a wider audience by publishing the first photographic picture books and making them available at popular prices.
